FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Our aim is to ensure that you know that your decision to choose Motorcycle Tours Scotland for your motorcycle
touring holiday is the right one. We appreciate that you may not have been on an organised bike touring holiday
before and might be a bit unsure about what to expect. Well, here we will try to answer some of the common queries
that people email to us before joining our tours. Remember though, the best way of getting answers to your
questions is to contact us.
I've never toured in a group before, so I don't have much experience ?
Our tour descriptions will give you an idea of the level of competence required for the rides by indicating the
types of roads and distances being travelled. Every rider will differ and the rides are 'touring' which means that
we all ride together. You don't need to be someone who always uses a motorcycle and racks up high mileages. You
simply need to be comfortable and relaxed on a bike. As long as you are happy with the distances, your touring
experience gained with us will leave you wanting more biking holiday adventures as soon as possible (with us of
course!).
Will I hold everyone up because I'm not a fast rider ?
No, we are not running endurance races and appreciate that within the group there will be riders with different
abilities and experience. Your guide will ensure that the ride stays together as a group and nobody will be asked
to ride beyond their capabilities. The routes are chosen for maximum enjoyment on two wheels and the roads are, in
the main, fairly quiet. There will be stretches where we find ourselves on a superb biking road, which winds along
for miles before reaching a junction. Your guide will identify such instances in the routes and will ensure that
upon reaching the junction point, the ride will wait until everyone re-groups.
Must I stick to the route all the time ?
Not necessarily. Although all our tours are guided, anyone wishing to deviate from a route may do so as long as
it is arranged with the guide. This prevents wasting time looking for riders who suddenly seem to have got lost!
Some riders may want the challenge of exploring another part of the route, or indeed want a route to do on their
own for a day. We do provide everyone with route details even though we guide you around the routes, so if you do
want to explore off-route, as long as you let us know, we will help with suggestions and agree collection points if
applicable. We always remember it's your holiday.
Are there lots of bikes on the tours ?
The numbers vary and we would normally want a minimum of 4 bikes to do a tour. We keep numbers to a level which
we feel is manageable to guide, usually 8 bikes, and will close booking for each tour once we have reached this
capacity. We also assess the level of guidance we require for a tour based on complexity of routes, mixture of
roads, number and types of bikes, riders and pillions etc. We usually have two guides and ride using a drop-off
system, which will be explained and demonstrated to everyone. Our prime goal is to ensure that you safely enjoy
your touring holiday on some of the best biking roads in the country. It is your biking holiday experience
with us that will ensure your next adventure will also be with Motorcycle Tours Scotland.
